We’re thrilled to announce that Topp Cycling is stepping in as the official sponsor of this year’s Proper Northern Road Race at Capernwray – one of the UK’s most respected early-season National B races. This partnership secures the race’s prize fund and helps ensure the event continues its reputation for hard, honest competition on 4th April.
Earlier this year, the organisers from Cold Dark North were open about the challenges they were facing. With previous backing coming to an end, they revealed they were struggling to offer an attractive prize fund for this year’s edition without new financial support.
Topp Cycling was drawn to sponsoring the race because of more than just exposure — it was our shared outlook that really stood out. As Cold Dark North organisers Deb John and Toby Cummins said:
“Topp Cycling’s positive attitude and ethos for supporting a race like ours was exactly the type of collaboration we were after.”
Why This Matters to Us
For Jake Hollins, founder of Topp Cycling, this partnership isn’t about visibility alone — it’s about responsibility.
Although Topp Cycling has only recently launched, our roots in British cycling run deep — and that commitment runs deeper still. Jake put it best:
“…this generation must take responsibility for protecting and growing the sport for the next generation.”
Supporting domestic events like Capernwray isn’t just sponsorship: it’s investment. Jake also made clear that Topp Cycling stands ready to support races across all disciplines — road, gravel, mountain bike, and cyclocross — wherever we can make a difference.
What’s Next
With our backing in place, organisers and riders alike can look forward to another fantastic edition of the Capernwray race on 4th April.
>> Entries are now open via British Cycling <<, and we can’t wait to see the community come together for a true test of grit and skill.
A big thanks to Cold Dark North for their partnership, and to The British Continental for amplifying the call that brought us together.
Stay tuned for more updates on our events, partnerships, and plans to grow British cycling from the grassroots up.
